How to fix Steam can't hear friend in voice Chat :Windows 10/11 ?

Steam which is now one of the largest Game digital distribution service. But many users are facing issue that the Steam Voice chat is not working. In the steam chat you can’t hear your friends. The issue is linked to some users only as many users are able to listen each other on the Voice Chat.  While some users are seeing reverse issue that their friends can’t hear them on Steam Voice Chat. It seems that Steam voice chat is not working and have some bugs in it.

Now only voice but also Steam user can't hear it ringing when someone tries to call or I try to call them. And once you are in the call can't hear what friends speak up. Microphone is working elsewhere like Skype app etc but not with the Steam voice chat. Clearly there is issue with conference in steam and voice chat. The steam voice chat is also not working on console /PS4 supported games.

Fix : Check sound setting & Restart Steam

The easy way to fix the Steam sound not working is to restart the Steam. This will fix any temporary glitch related to sound, voice chat functionality. Also Right click the volume icon in your taskbar, open volume mixer and make sure steam is all the way up and not muted.

Fix : Set Default communication Device as Headphone

If steam voice chat sound is not working then Make sure the Playback device you are using, i.e. speakers or headphones are also set to the default communication device.

Note the playback device as well as the recording device needs to be set to the default communication device.

To Fix steam voice chat issue: 

• Hit Windows + G and navigate to Audio

• under audio select voice

• Now in default communication output set it to Headphone or whatever your main output speaker is

Fix : Disable old audio output device

On you PC check your settings in the voice tab of the audio widget. Here disable any audio output devices you don’t use in the pc sound settings. After this restart game after settings changes.

Hopefully this will fix steam voice chat issue not working.
