How to fix CarPlay Voice Search Not working after iOS 15 Update ?


Many users are reporting issue with Carplay not working with Voice Input after updating to latest iOS 15.2.  After updating to latest iOS 15.2 voice command no longer works on different apps like Goolge Maps , Yandex Navigation, Waze app etc. The issue can be seen on the latest iPhone 13 Pro Max as well. Even the microphone icon is missing from app in CarPlay. 


Carplay voice command not working says "Didn't" quite hear that"


When you open google maps app via carplay, and try to add destination address via voice input, it does not work anymore. This is so irritating as the voice commands works with Siri but not with CarPlay. It is happening with different car model like Pilot and Camry, Mazda, Hyundai, Lexus, BMW etc.

Fix : Try Workaround with Siri


There is a workaround to fix Carplay voice control not working is to use Siri to navigate with Google Maps. Press Siri/ voice control button on steering wheel or say Hey Siri when that is activated. Then say get me directions from place A to place B using Google Maps.


Please note that for using Google Maps it is important to say to Siri ‘using Google Maps’



Fix : Reinstall the App/ Google Map


To fix the Carplay not working with voice command, delete the app eg  Google Maps and reinstall it. Please follow below steps:

Uninstall Google Maps.

Turn iPhone off

Turn iPhone on 

Install Google Maps Again

Turn iPhone off 

Connected USB cable in car for CarPlay

Turn iPhone on 

LauncheGoogle Maps

Grant access to location services, microphone, and contacts


Now try again and voice command should start working again. 


Fix : Update iPhone to new iOS version


The Carplay issue with voice command seems to be issue with the new iOS 15 version. A permanent fix for the issue will be released by the Apple in upcoming releases, so please keep your iPhone updated to latest iOS version available.
