“Not Making This Movie Without Val”: Jerry Bruckheimer Reveals Tom Cruise’s Demand For Top Gun 2
In 1986, producer Jerry Bruckheimer was responsible for helping to bring the original film Top Gun to life. The Tom Cruise-led and Tony Scott-helmed film became the biggest worldwide hit of that year with a box office count of $357 million. However, development never seemed to fully kick into high gear after this moment. Thus, attention turned back to several other projects in which Bruckheimer also played a part. Years later, Bruckheimer locked into an idea for taking Top Gun 2 forward once again but this time under direction from Joe Kosinski. When Kosinski impressed everyone with his pitch presentation about Top Gun: Maverick at San Diego Comic-Con 2017, all parties were thrilled to get things moving once again.
