iPhone 12/11 Portrait mode not working ?



Many iPhone 12, 11, iPhone X/XR/XS users are reporting issue with the Portrait mode not working properly. For some iphone 11,12 users the portrait mode is not working at all while for some other user iPhone is not taking photo properly and capture distorted images.  If you try to click a photo in iPhone and check the photo in Gallery/ Photo app, the photo taken is not Portrait but is like a normal photo and iPhone is not blurring back side

The issue is with front camera of iPhone also , the portrait mode does not work with the front camera. The problem seems to be extended with FaceID also not working with portrait mode for many iPhone users. This is weird because FaceId and Front camera portrait mode stopped working suddenly without any damage to the iPhone. 




How to fix Portrait mode not working in iPhone 12 Pro Max,11/XR/XS Max/X : iOS 14/ iOS 15



Fix  1 : Hard Reset your iPhone


To fix Portrait mode related issue in iPhone 12,11 try hard resetting the iPhone. To hard reset iPhone follow these steps. 

  • Press and quickly release volume up button
  • Then press and quickly release volume down button
  • Then press and keep holding the side power button (keep holding past the swipe to power off) until you see the Apple Logo, then let go



Fix 2: Make sure nothing is covering the TrueDepth camera


The iPhone FaceId and Potrait mode will not work if its True depth camera is covered. Check if TrueDepth camera are not covered in your iPhone by a screen protector. Also check for any type of dust particles covering the true depth camera. 


Fix 3 : Check for Hardware fault

Portrait mode in iPhone is dependent of hardware of iPhone. If above troubleshooting steps are not helping you, then you should take your iPhone to nearby Authorised Apple support centre to get your device checked for Hardware fault. In case it is a hardware fault you will get a brand new iPhone if you are in warranty period.
