Harris County DA Says ICE Intentionally Struck Migrant With Vehicle

Well, well, well — a Houston-area district attorney appears to believe a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) vehicle was weaponized against a Texas resident, 48-year-old Miguel Parra-Hernandez, who broke at least one of his legs when he was hit by a federal agent on Saturday.
As we previously noted, if it were proven true that the agent hit Parra-Hernandez intentionally, it would be ironic, considering the numerous times ICE agents have accused people they shot of “weaponizing their vehicle” against them, while their shooting victims were actually just trying to drive away.
On Tuesday, Harris County District Attorney Sean Teare told FOX 26 Houston that surveillance footage of the incident shows Parra-Hernandez and another person jumping out of a white truck and running as a dark SUV pursues them, ultimately striking Parra-Hernandez, who is seen on the ground seconds later.
“The most obvious criminal charge is aggravated assault with a deadly weapon,” Teare said. “Meaning the car was used as a deadly weapon. And it certainly is what appears to have happened, based on the surveillance footage.”
The. Car. Was. Used. As. A. Deadly. Weapon.
If what Teare says is true, it would mean an agent performed the very act ICE routinely accuses migrants and protesters of performing in an effort to justify shooting and/or killing those migrants and protesters.
Mind you, local prosecutors in Houston are still in the midst of investigating the fatal shooting of Mexican immigrant Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, who was shot and killed by an agent in July, during another incident in which he allegedly tried to flee ICE and, according to the Department of Homeland Security, weaponized his vehicle in that attempt.
Of course, in Parra-Hernandez’s case, ICE is denying its agents struck him on purpose, and saying it’s “reckless” and “false” to suggest otherwise, according to the Associated Press.
But again, in this instance, it’s not activists and immigration advocates saying the video shows an intentional act; it’s the Harris County district attorney.
Also, ICE didn’t think it was “reckless” or “false” when one of its agents shot Chicago activist Marimar Martinez, who was charged with felony assault of a federal officer, before that charge was dismissed weeks after a judge grilled Border Patrol personnel over “discrepancies” in their account of how the shooting started. And neither ICE nor DHS thought they were being “reckless” or “false” when they smeared Renee Nicole Good as a “domestic terrorist” based on zero evidence in order to justify shooting her in her car, just as they did ICE shooting victim Alex Pretti, whose only crime was trying to protect someone else being attacked by agents.
Look, we could fill a whole new Constitution with instances that prove ICE is out of control. The only question is — when will they start facing consequences?
