Wait, Trump Really Has Us Beefing With Canada?

Prior to the lyrical dust-up between Compton native Kendrick Lamar and Canadian goose Drake, Canada has historically been one of the kindest countries in the world. Residents don’t lock their doors, and they have free healthcare and really goofy and soft accents. 

So why on Rihanna’s green Earth is the president of people who are buying poorly-made trash can trucks to own the libs, trying to beef with Canada? Canada doesn’t bother anyone. They are quite literally the physical embodiment of drinking their water and minding their business. 

But that hasn’t stopped the fake dictator in office from claiming that the country that doesn’t bother anyone is America’s 51st state, issuing tariffs, and just blatantly being disrespectful AF. 

During a Tuesday Interview with Republican OnlyFans aka Fox News, the president claimed that he’s going to keep bullying our neighboring country. 

“You’re tougher with Canada than you are with our biggest adversaries. Why?” asked Laura Ingraham, The New Republic reports. 

“Only because it’s meant to be our fifty-first state,” Trump said. “No, no but listen to this for a second.”

“We need their territory. They have territorial advantage. We’re not going to let them get close to China, right?” the Fox host asked.

“Look, I deal with every country—directly or indirectly. One of the nastiest countries to deal with is Canada,” Trump said.

Maybe, and I’m not a moderator, but just maybe that’s because Trump keeps claiming that he’s going to make their country America’s 51st state! Oh, and he can’t stop talking about Canada’s former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, even though he lost his position as Canada’s main guy to Mark Carney last week.

“Now, this was Trudeau—good old Justin. I call him ‘Governor Trudeau.’ His people were nasty, and they weren’t telling the truth. They never tell the truth,” Trump said. “You know, they’d say, ‘We don’t charge,’ and they do, they charge tremendous.”

Trump doesn’t understand how tariffs work so he keeps claiming that he’s going to tax the country that sends goods to America. The problem is the company/country that is being charged the tariff simply passes that charge on to the consumer. In defense of tariffs, Trump began making all kinds of fictitious claims (read lies) about Canada.

Like this one: “In Canada, we find that they’re charging us over 200% for dairy products… And when I left, we had that well taken care of, but under Biden they just kept raising it.”

CBS News found this claim to be ridiculously false. 

“President Trump has suggested Canada unfairly put tariffs of over 200% on American dairy products during President Biden’s term, but the level has been unchanged since before Biden took office.”

“The over 200% tariffs on U.S. dairy products are only triggered if U.S. dairy exports exceed certain yearly duty-free limits, and U.S. dairy manufacturers say they have never been close to exceeding these limits.”

But why would we bother Trump with the truth when his lies serve a purpose? It’s just confusing that his purpose seems to be picking a fight with Canada, and Canada don’t bother nobody.
