LaVar Ball is the leader of the Ball family, and all of his sons have reached NBA heights, so he’s seen a lot of success, but he recently underwent a life-changing surgery.

TMZ Sports reports that the eldest Ball recently had his foot amputated after suffering a medical issue that affected his lower limbs. However, Ball’s typical high spirits haven’t wavered.

“We’re told the Ball family patriarch underwent a recent procedure to have his right foot removed… but despite it all, he is in great spirits and doing well,” TMZ writes.

At this time, there is no other information regarding Ball’s medical condition that led to his right foot, but in a photo TMZ posted, he can be seen in the halls of a hospital in a wheelchair with a bandage around his lower leg while sporting a big smile.

Ball has been a mainstay in the basketball world over the past few years, which began when all three of his sons, Lonzo, LiAngelo, and LaMelo, made a name for themselves as players for California’s Chino Hills High School.

His opinions and influence only grew as they graduated from high school, and their NBA hoop dreams got even closer.

It began with Lonzo, who spent a year as a UCLA Bruin before the Los Angeles Lakers selected him with the second pick of the 2017 NBA draft. He played there until 2019, but after a meniscus tear and the signing of LeBron James, the attention shifted from him, so he was traded to the New Orleans Pelicans before joining the Chicago Bulls. He’s since returned to the lineup despite several frustrating and lingering knee injuries.

LiAngelo is the only brother not in the league despite a few appearances in the G League, JBA, Mexico, and Lithuania. However, he’s found recent success in the music business with the TikTok viral favorite ‘Tweaker.’

Then, there’s LaMelo, who took the unconventional route of playing overseas and then joining the Charlotte Hornets as the third overall pick in the 2020 Draft.

LaVar shares the three sons with wife Tina, who had her own medical scare back in 2017 when she suffered a stroke.
