After a star-studded success of a Democratic National Convention that appeared to give Vice President Kamala Harris even more political momentum in her quest to become the first Black woman president, her Republican rival Donald Trump appears to be laying the foundation to weasel his way out of debating her.

A screenshot of a social media post from Trump on Sunday night has gone viral and shows he listed myriad excuses for why he should not meet Harris on the debate stage next month in a previously and mutually agreed showdown between the two presidential nominees.

But now, those plans may be put on hold or suspended altogether after Trump took to his so-called Trump Social platform to effectively complain about circumstances that he himself has created.

Still possibly licking his wounds from the debacle of an interview during a panel discussion at the National Association of Black Journalists convention last month — a panel discussion moderated in part by ABC News anchor Rachel Scott, a Black woman who wouldn’t accept any of Trump’s lies — Trump sounded like he regretted agreeing to take part in a debate hosted and televised by that media organization.

Trump put forth a number of apparent conspiracy theories by suggesting various ABC News staffers would collude against him in favor of Harris.

In classic Trump form, he resorted to name-calling and described the debate’s moderators as a “Panel of Trump Haters” who he said without evidence would provide the questions to Harris in advance and not do the same for him.

Trump said of ABC News: “They’ve got a lot of questions to answer!!!”

From the outside looking in, the fearful vibes were palpable as Trump appeared to be exhibiting apprehension of having to go up against Harris on the debate stage as the Democratic nominee has been shoring up polling support both nationally as well as in key battleground states in surveys that are giving her an edge over her Republican opponent.

The debate has been scheduled to be held on Sept. 10.

If Trump was expecting a debate like the one he had against President Joe Biden in June, he may want to think again.

That was when Biden’s debate performance sparked questions of cognitive decline after he struggled to answer questions without stuttering and losing his train of thought to the point where even Trump, of all people, called him out over it.

Trump will more than likely have no such luck against Harris, who has repeatedly shown herself to be among the sharpest and most qualified presidential candidates in recent years.

Hence, his social media post on Sunday night potentially setting it up so that he will probably end up ducking Harris on the debate stage.

This is America.
