On Aug. 9, Cobb County Police were actively searching for Jenkins, as he allegedly had outstanding warrants, according to Cobb County PD, but there is no word on what those warrants were for.
Police also say that they found a handgun on the scene that allegedly belonged to Jenkins.
But Nathain Jenkins’ father, Darlland Jackson, can’t understand why he doesn’t have answers to why his son won’t be coming home again. Darlland, who was on the phone with his son while he was shot, said he pulled up to the scene when his son called him to say he was in trouble.
“As I’m pulling inside Walgreens, I called him and said, ‘Hey, there’s a bunch of cops running inside Walgreens. What’s going on?’” Darlland told WSB-TV.
“Before you know it, I heard gunshots. So I drove around to this Starbucks right here and the cops were saying, ‘Get down! Get down! Get down!’ and stuff like that. Then I heard more shots, and I didn’t hear from him no more,” Jackson said.
Jenkins’ father is now demanding that police share details into how his son ended up shot and killed by police in a local drug store.
That has yet to happen.
“Nothing, nothing, nothing…you killed my son and now I got to wait here for you to talk to me?” Darlland told Fox 5. “My son was a good kid, I just want him to be remembered as a good person.”
He also said Nathain Jenkins was a father and left behind five children.
“One, three, five and two teenagers…having those conversations with them the past couple of hours have been really, really tough,” Jackson told Fox 5.
Jenkins’ death is just another senseless and tragic incident where a Black life is taken by those who are meant to protect and serve.
On July 6, Sonya Massey was shot and killed by police after she called 911, suspecting a possible prowler at her Springfield home. Her death has sparked national outrage among the Black community.
Just a few weeks later, Samuel Sharpe Jr. was shot and killed by Columbus, Ohio, police during the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.
