Why Gregg Brooks is Suing Johnny Depp for Physical Abuse

Apparently, Johnny Depp’s time in court isn’t over yet. After the wildly publicized defamation trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard, where Depp had a historic victory, the Pirates of the Caribbean actor is now facing another legal process, not in Virginia but in Los Angeles, where he is expected to take the stand again after Gregg ‘Rocky’ Brooks, who sued him civilly for hitting him on the set of the movie City of Lies.

‘Rocky’ Brooks was employed as the location manager for a cop thriller based on the investigation into the murders of Tupac Shakur and The Notorious B.I.G.

In July 2018 Brooks, 61, had filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles accusing Depp of “causing him emotional distress” by punching him twice in the rib cage.

Tempers rose, punches flew

Brooks said that the matter heated up because he expressed to the actor and director Brad Furman, that a scene wasn’t working. He went to get a cop after Depp punched him a couple of times followed by yelling and a challenge of giving Brooks $100K if he punched Depp.

Brooks claimed in his lawsuit that the actor’s breath smelled of alcohol during the fight. Reports say that Depp’s bodyguards had to remove the actor from the scene to mellow the situation and calm things down.

Real assault or a hoax to cash in?

Depp has defended himself by claiming that Brooks “provoked” the actions that resulted in his injury, and the true reason for the case is undisclosed monetary charges.

Following Depp’s massive victory in the defamation case against Amber Heard, Brooks’ advocate Pat Harris told The Sun, “While we respect the jury’s decision, it has no relevance to Mr. Brooks’ case in Los Angeles… Brooks’ case is not about two Hollywood celebrities involved in a toxic relationship, it is about the assault of a hard-working film crew member by the star of the production… Mr. Brooks looks forward to his day in court”.
