How to fix iPhone 12/XR keeps Disconnecting from WiFi when locked iOS 15 ?

Many iPhone 13,12 Pro Max,XR,XS MAX users are facing issue with Wi-Fi keeps on disconnecting when locked or in sleep mode. Fix 1 : uninstall the VPN app

One reason why iPhone 12 disconnects WiFI when locked can be due to VPN app installed on the iPhone. VPN app disconnects WiFi when the iPhone goes to sleep mode, even when the VPN app is not used. Simple solution would be to remove the VPN app. Also on your iPhone Settings > VPN and then turn off the VPN if it is connected

If you still want to use VPN app, we recommend to use VPN app that uses IKEv2 which is Apple's native VPN framework, for example ProtonVPN. 

If changing to IKEv2 does not help, then please try to trun ON option on the VPN app which is "Keep VPN on when device is idle." After this the problem should resolve. 

Fix 2 : Reset the network Settings

After an iOS update, there might be some glitches in network settings of iphone, which may drop Wifi on iPhone frequently. To remove that you should reset the network settings. Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset. After this your iPhone will reboot and the issue should get fixed.

Fix 3: Reset the Router Settings

One easy solution to fix iPhone dropping WiFI when locked is to disabled WiFi Networking in location services and that seems to have solved the problem. go to Settings> Privacy > Location Services> System Services and then slide the Wi-Fi networking toggle to OFF.

Fix 5: Change Network Name

Now a days almost all router have two WiFi connection available at 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz. There are some reports suggesting that the  iOS , iPhone devices tend to drop connection when they are locked if routers 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz networks share same name . Try changing one of your network's name from router settings.

Fix 6: Turn off WiFi Assist

WiFi Assist is ON by default in the iPhone settings.  Turn off WiFi assist and test again to see if the issue persists. Go to iPhone Settings->Cellular -> Scroll down and turn off WiFi Assist. 

Fix 7: Check for Router firmware update

You should also check if there are any software updates for the router are pending. Sometimes, Wi-Fi router can also cause problems like Wi-Fi disconnects when iPhone is locked. You can try updating the router firmware if it is outdated. Check with manufactures site for latest software updates.
