FaceTime using Email ID instead of phone number for calls : iPhone 12,XR

Many iPhone 12 Pro Max, XR users are facing issue in using the Facetime that FaceTime is registered as email rather than phone number of users. If someone tries to call on FaceTime using iphone the call does not go through or Facetime says it is verifying phone number. The phone number won’t verify but both Apple ID and iCloud emails have been added to the “you can be reached at” on FaceTime.

FaceTime not register as Phone number : iPhone 12,XR

The Facetime stuck on verifying the phone number seems to be widespread across many different users with different iPhone including latest iPhone 12 , 11 on latest iOS 14, iOS 14.6 etc. Users are stuck with issue – “How to verify my phone number for iMessage and FaceTime”

The issue is permanent and FaceTime can make calls through email address only, phone is greyed out and says "verifying". Thus not able to Facetime users using their phone number. So it is very difficult to FaceTime someone if you do not have their email id registered on FaceTime.

But most of the time we have contact number of the friends etc thus FaceTime only letting call through email id is really. In the Facetime setting phone number is unchecked and you won’t be able to select it.
